Resources for classes... Open Course Ware and others

MIT and a few other universities have made their courses available online. This is an excellent resource for instructors who may be looking for new ideas and resources to incorporate into their own classes here at Coppin. You can look at over 1800 MIT courses at MIT Open Course Ware. Other universities participating (with their own sites) include Utah State and Notre Dame.

Another place to find useful resources is the Creative Commons.

Share, Remix, Reuse — Legally

Creative Commons provides free tools that let authors, scientists, artists, and educators easily mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry. You can use CC to change your copyright terms from "All Rights Reserved" to "Some Rights Reserved."

We're a nonprofit organization. Everything we do — including the software we create — is free.

Project Gutenberg is a website where you can find texts that are now in the public domain. For example: the complete works of Shakespeare, and The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois.

Still searching for useful materials? Be sure to check out Google Scholar. Google has scanned thousands (millions? billions? more?) of books, articles, and other source materials and made them available for free online -- or at least part of them. For example, if you search for "Invisible Man" you will find the book by Ralph Ellison has been scanned in and you can read major portions of it online. Google Scholar also has links to allow you to see what other books and articles have cited this book, and find related articles, like Cornel West's book, Race Matters.

And don't forget the Coppin State library! Not only can you search the online catalog for books and journals, but you can find e-Resources such as journals and articles that are fully available online so that you can read them from the comfort of your office.
